The Academy Awards are this Sunday, and just under one-third of the country plans to tune in for all (10%) or some (21%) of the show. 59% of Americans say they’re definitely not going to watch, and 9% aren’t sure.
YouGov’s polling shows a big split in interest in this year’s Oscar-nominated films. Half (52%) of Americans haven’t seen any of the 10 movies nominated for Best Picture. Among those who say they’re not going to watch the Oscars, the share who haven’t seen any of the nominees is 66%.
But among the 10% of the country who is planning to watch all of the Academy Awards, only 12% haven’t seen any of the Best Picture nominees. 32% of them have seen five or more.
As Jamie Ballard writes for YouGov, the Best Picture nominee Americans are most likely to have watched is Sinners, which 28% of Americans say they’ve seen. 25% say they’ve watched Frankenstein, though the question did not specify that it was asking about the 2025 Guillermo del Toro-directed version and not other Frankenstein adaptations. 14% have seen F1, and 14% have seen One Battle after Another. Only 6% have seen Train Dreams, and 3% have seen Sentimental Value.
Sinners is also the Best Picture nominee that the largest share of Americans want to win. 19% say it should win, higher than the 7% who say that of Frankenstein, 6% of F1, and 4% of One Battle after Another.
These polls of the American population don’t have a consistent track record of predicting actual winners. In 2025, only 2% of Americans predicted “Anora” would win Best Picture. In 2024, 24% correctly guessed “Oppenheimer” would win.

Charting opinions
53% of Americans say they somewhat or strongly approve of “the decision” to fire Noem, but 60% say they approve of “President Trump’s decision” to fire her. The share who disapprove of the decision is the same for both versions: 11%. Half (50%) of Republicans approve of the decision to fire Noem when Trump is not mentioned, but nearly two-thirds (64%) approve of “President Trump’s decision” to fire her. (Alexander Rossell Hayes)
The government agency Americans are most likely to see as trustworthy is the National Park Service
Americans are twice as likely to say Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is untrustworthy or very untrustworthy (50%) as they are to say it’s trustworthy or very trustworthy (26%). Other parts of the government that Americans are more likely to find untrustworthy than trustworthy are the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) (41% vs. 28%), and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) (36% vs. 26%).
Which agencies are Americans most likely to see as trustworthy? A majority (57%) say the National Park Service is trustworthy or very trustworthy. Slightly fewer (52%) see the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) as trustworthy (35%) or very trustworthy (17%). (Jamie Ballard)
